With a growing demand for direct, technology-driven solutions, Home Connect sought to create a more transparent, cost-effective alternative that empowers users to take control of their real estate journey. Home Connect flips the script on real estate marketplaces like Zillow and Redfin by enabling direct communication between buyers and sellers while still ensuring expert guidance. 

The traditional real estate market presents multiple challenges for buyers and sellers:

  • High costs: Commissions and fees make transactions more expensive than they need to be.
  • Complex transactions: Regulations, contracts, and negotiations create an overwhelming process.
  • Lack of marketing expertise: Sellers struggle to showcase their properties effectively.
  • Emotional and mental stress: 62% of home sellers report that the process negatively impacts their mental health.

8th Light partnered with Home Connect to develop a platform that streamlines the buying and selling experience by removing barriers and providing users with powerful, intuitive tools that simplify transactions, reduce costs, and ensure users have the guidance they need.

At 8th Light, we believe that successful products begin with a deep understanding of user needs. We conducted extensive research, including interviews, surveys, and prototype testing, to identify key pain points in the real estate process. This research guided our design and development strategy, ensuring the platform addressed real-world challenges.

A seamless, transparent real estate experience

In order to recognize the complex nature of real estate transactions, Home Connect integrates multiple features to support buyers and sellers at every step of the process: 

  • AI-generated listings and pricing insights: The platform uses generative AI to write compelling property descriptions based on photos and location data, and suggests market-aligned pricing by pulling in local tax records and sales data.
  • Instant cost estimation: Users receive upfront pricing guidance, eliminating surprises. 
  • Expert guidance on demand: Real estate specialists are available via messaging or voice calls, helping users navigate negotiations, inspections, and legal requirements.
  • Real-time updates: Users receive instant feedback, progress notifications, and new listing alerts to keep them engaged and informed.
  • Secure transactions: The platform leverages AWS for secure logins and provides transaction management tools to simplify closing processes.
  • Intelligent buyer matching: A custom-built matching engine connects buyers and sellers based on their preferences and location.


 

Adapting to challenges with a focused approach

Building Home Connect required balancing ambitious goals with the realities of product innovation. Initially aiming for a broad set of features, we worked closely with the founder to define a minimum viable product (MVP) that delivered core value while allowing for iterative improvements. By prioritizing native mobile experiences and integrating third-party solutions where necessary, we ensured a smooth user experience.

Throughout development, we faced technical and organizational challenges, from learning new technologies to resolving integration issues. However, our agile approach allowed us to continuously deliver value, adjust timelines realistically, and strengthen our team's expertise in mobile app development and real estate tech integrations.

Home Connect is redefining real estate transactions with a seamless, tech-driven approach. The platform enables users to reduce transaction costs, connect with ideal matches faster, and access expert support in real time.

The result was a powerful, easy-to-use platform that redefined real estate transactions. Within eight months, we launched a multi-platform 'Tinder for real estate' — enabling buyers and sellers to connect directly with confidence. Key outcomes include:

  • Reduced transaction costs: Users complete sales for a fraction of traditional agent fees.
  • Faster matches: Intelligent algorithms help buyers find properties quickly.
  • Enhanced user confidence: Access to expert guidance and transparent pricing reduces stress.
  • Successful launch: Home Connect officially launched on January 31, 2025, creating a new model for real estate transactions.

With the Home Connect app, users can view and understand market pricing before pricing their home.
